While air conditioners provide significant comfort benefits to residents of Georgia, your AC unit will also require proper maintenance to function efficiently and avoid costly ac repairs. Regular cleaning of the AC unit, air filter, condenser and evaporator coils, and other components can help prevent issues such as reduced airflow, a frozen evaporator coil, and system failure.

It is also essential to have your air conditioner serviced regularly by a local Georgia air conditioning repair company to ensure it functions correctly and addresses any potential issues before they become more significant problems. Proper use of your air conditioner can also help improve its performance and longevity. AC Problems We Deal With

In Georgia:

Refrigerant Leaks:

Refrigerant is essential for an air conditioner to function correctly. If there is a leak in the refrigerant line, it can cause the AC unit to stop cooling properly.

Clogged Air Filters:

Over time, air filters can become clogged with dust and other particles, reducing the airflow and causing the AC unit to work harder to cool the air.

Faulty Compressors:

The AC  compressor is the heart of the air conditioning system; if it fails, the unit will not cool effectively.

Frozen Evaporator Coils:

If the evaporator coils become frozen, it can cause the  AC unit to stop cooling effectively.

Malfunctioning Thermostats:

If the thermostat is not functioning correctly, it can cause the air conditioner to turn on and off at inappropriate times or fail to maintain the desired temperature.

Electrical Issues:

Electrical issues such as tripped breakers or blown fuses can cause the air conditioner to stop working.

Dirty AC Condenser Coils:

If the AC unit condenser coils become dirty, it can reduce the air conditioner's efficiency, causing it to work harder and potentially causing damage to the unit.

It's essential to address these issues promptly to prevent further damage to the unit and to ensure that it continues to provide efficient cooling and heating. Regular AC maintenance and timely repairs can prevent these problems and ensure your air conditioning unit functions optimally.

If You Notice Any Of These Issues, It's Time To Get Your HVAC System Serviced:

If your HVAC system is making unusual noises or appears louder than usual, it may be a failing condenser motor. Over time, the condenser motor can seize up and stop spinning as it ages. Lack of annual servicing can contribute to this issue, especially when a dirty condenser coil forces the motor to draw higher-than-normal amperage, straining to pull air through the dirty condenser coil. Additionally, neglecting to change the air filter regularly can result in increased compressor noise as it pumps refrigerant through the system. These factors collectively suggest potential problems with the condenser motor and emphasize the importance of regular maintenance to ensure optimal system performance and minimize disruptive noises.

Increased Energy Bills Due to Your A/C Constantly Running?

Have you seen a drastic change in your power bill? Let's make sure your AC Unit is not running all day. AC Units have to run to remove humidity from your home. If your AC system is oversized, the air in your home will feel wet or sticky. If you feel your AC Unit is running longer than normal, it's possible your system is low on freon and needs to be serviced. Have you replaced your filter?

Air Blowing From Supply Vents is Not Cold, It Feels Lukewarm:

What is the temperature of the air blowing out of your supply vents inside your home? If the air doesn’t feel as cold as it used to, it can be something very simple causing the problem. Have you had your AC Unit cleaned in the last two years? Check and see if it looks dirty. Over time, dust can accumulate between the fins of the condenser coil, hindering efficiency This is not easy to see, but you will be surprised how much dust and dirt will wash out from between them when you have your AC Unit cleaned with the proper cleaning chemicals. If you paid for a high-efficiency AC system, a dirty condenser coil would take away the efficiency of the system you purchased.

Simple Test a Homeowner Can Do To Check If AC System Is Working Correctly:

This is a simple test based on the Delta T, formula.  This will give you an idea of what is going on with your HVAC System.

Delta T - Is the difference between return air temperature and supply air temperature, it is one of the most commonly used measurements in the HVAC industry).

1. Let your AC Unit run for at least 5 minutes.

2 Take a thermometer and place it in the supply vent to measure the temperature of the air as it blows out of the vent.

3.  While your thermometer is checking the temperature of the air blowing out the vent, go to your home thermostat, which controls the AC System you are checking, and get the room temperature your thermostat is displaying.

4.  Subtract the temperature of the air blowing out the vent from the room temperature.

5.  The air blowing from the vents should be 16 degrees or colder than the room temperature your home thermostat is showing.

If you have 16 degrees are less, you can have a number of potential issues.

Check For:

  • AC System is low on freon. (possible freon leak)
  • A malfunctioning metering device in the evaporator coil.
  • The blower motor in the furnace is set at the wrong speed. The airflow is too fast.
  • The humidity level is extremely high
  • Liquid line restriction - Freon is not flowing freely.
  • A malfunctioning compressor (Compressor is not pumping, Valves in the compressor are not sealing)
  • The ductwork is not sealed correctly - Allowing hot air in

If you’re seeing less than a 17-degree difference and are unsure where the issue is, try checking the air filter, humidity levels, and system charge. Can't figure it out? Give John’s Heating, Cooling, and Appliance Repair a call. We can have you cooling again in no time!!

If you have a temperature difference above 22 degrees,

Check For:

  • Low airflow - can be caused by a dirty filter, dirty evaporator, or dirty blower wheel, or not enough return or supply ducts.
  • The humidity level is low
  • A blower that’s not running at the correct speed.

Can't figure it out? Give John’s Heating, Cooling, and Appliance Repair a call. We can have you cooling again in no time!!
